Karen Mukwasi

Director/Co-founder

Karen is a women’s right’s activist, software-engineer, filmmaker and development communications practitioner. She has nine year experience working with women’s rights organisations in Zimbabwe, the region and east Africa.

 

During her career as women’s rights practitioner she worked for Women Filmmaker’s of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Women’s Resource Center and Network and was an editor of the Women’s Communication Network(Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe and UNWomen).

She has produced and directed two documentaries that focus on sexual violence. She is also a published author with her debut work focusing on women’s vulnerabilities during conflict.

 

Karen holds a B.A Communication Science and an Advanced Diploma in Computer Systems’ Design.

She is an Alumnus of the Mandela Washington Fellowship were she studied Civic leadership at Indiana University – Bloomington (USA) and currently part of the Obama Leadership Program where she is championing safe spaces for women in Education.

 

She is also a founder of the Conversations with Our Father’s Project where she produced the short film “Mukanya”, a narrative designed to promote gender transformational approaches to end gender based violence.
